Master the Employee Lifecycle in a Scaling Tech Firm

This role sits at the heart of HR operations, so your ability to keep processes precise and people moving smoothly will be tested from day one. Hiring managers will look for proof that you can handle contracts, HRIS data, and employee queries without dropping the ball.

    1. Show your HRIS fluency: On your CV, name the HRIS platforms you've used (e.g., BambooHR, Workday) and give a concrete example of how you used one to streamline a process. If you've built reports or configured workflows, say so.

    2. Prepare a contract administration story: Be ready to walk through how you've drafted or managed employment contracts, including how you ensured accuracy and compliance. Mention any experience with offer letters, amendments, or terminations.

    3. Demonstrate your audit mindset: Talk about a time you reviewed employee records for accuracy or participated in an audit. Highlight your attention to detail and how you caught errors before they became problems.

    4. Practice your stakeholder communication: Since you'll communicate with employees at all levels, prepare examples of how you've explained policies or handled sensitive conversations with empathy and clarity. Role-play a scenario where you guide a manager through a process.

    5. Understand local and global HR ops: This role involves global standards, so show you're aware of Kenyan labor laws and also comfortable with multi-country operations. Mention any experience with international teams or remote work policies.

    6. Get ready for conflict resolution questions: Even though it's under supervision, you'll help with initial conflict resolution. Think of a time you mediated a minor dispute or de-escalated a tense situation, and explain your approach.

    7. Highlight your change management support: When systems or processes change, you'll help colleagues adapt. Give an example of how you've supported a team through a transition, like a new HRIS rollout or a policy update.

    8. Ask smart questions about technology: Show interest in HR tech by asking about the HRIS they use and any upcoming enhancements. This signals you're ready to contribute to efficiency improvements from the start.
