Show Your Lesson Planning and Student Progress Tracking

For a mathematics and pre-technical studies role, hiring managers want to see how you structure lessons, differentiate for mixed abilities, and measure student progress. Be ready to talk about your teaching philosophy and concrete examples of improving student outcomes.

    1. Tailor your CV to the subject: Highlight your mathematics and pre-technical studies teaching experience, including any specialized training or certifications. Use specific numbers, like class sizes or improvement in test scores, to show impact.

    2. Prepare a teaching portfolio: Bring sample lesson plans, schemes of work, and assessment materials you've created. This demonstrates your ability to plan and deliver high-quality lessons.

    3. Know the national curriculum: Be familiar with the Kenyan competency-based curriculum (CBC) and how it applies to mathematics and pre-technical studies. Mention any experience you have with CBC implementation.

    4. Emphasize classroom management: Share strategies you use to maintain discipline and create a positive learning environment. Provide examples of how you handle challenging behaviors.

    5. Show your use of instructional technology: Mention any tools you use to make lessons engaging, such as interactive whiteboards, educational apps, or online resources. This shows you're adaptable and modern.

    6. Highlight your TSC registration: Make sure your TSC number is clearly visible on your CV. This is a mandatory requirement, and missing it could disqualify you.

    7. Prepare for competency-based questions: Expect questions about how you assess student progress, provide feedback, and support struggling learners. Use the STAR method to structure your answers.

    8. Show your commitment to professional development: Mention any workshops, courses, or conferences you've attended to improve your teaching. This shows you're proactive and dedicated to growth.
