Turning Travel Leads into Booked Trips

This role lives on your ability to close sales while keeping clients happy. Hiring managers will look for a mix of travel product knowledge, sales hustle, and polished communication.

    1. Show sales wins on your CV: Quantify your past performance—how many bookings you closed, revenue you brought in, or targets you exceeded. Even if you're entry-level, mention any sales or customer-facing roles with numbers.

    2. Know your destinations: Brush up on popular Kenyan and international destinations, including hotels, flights, and activities. Be ready to design a sample itinerary in the interview.

    3. Practice upselling: Think of ways to add value—upgrading flights, adding tours, or suggesting travel insurance. Prepare a few examples of how you'd cross-sell.

    4. Master the phone: Tour consultants often work over the phone and email. Practice clear, friendly communication and active listening to understand client needs.

    5. Learn ticketing basics: Even if it's an added advantage, knowing airline ticketing terms (PNR, fare classes, etc.) gives you an edge. Take a short online course if needed.

    6. Prepare for scenario questions: Expect questions like 'How would you handle a client whose flight is canceled?' Show empathy, problem-solving, and quick thinking.

    7. Highlight customer service: Share stories where you went the extra mile for a customer. This role is about building relationships, not just making sales.

    8. Research the company: Learn about the client company's travel specialties and target market. Tailor your answers to show you understand their customers.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
