    Job Description

The Trainer, Japanese Language is responsible for delivering high-quality, learner-centered Japanese language instruction at JLPT/JFT N5–N4 levels, preparing learners for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT/JFT) and equipping them with the language skills and cultural competencies necessary for academic, professional, and employment success. The role also involves curriculum development, continuous assessment, learner support, and fostering partnerships to enhance program quality and institutional growth.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and regularly update the Institute's Japanese language curriculum to ensure alignment with JLPT/JFT standards.
    • Identify, source, and integrate appropriate teaching materials and resources, including authentic cultural and multimedia content for effective instruction.
    • Deliver interactive, learner-centered Japanese lessons across all four language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, using authentic, up-to-date materials and digital tools.
    • Accommodate diverse learning styles while fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment aligned with CMTI values.
    • Ensure that at least 80% of Japanese language learners successfully pass their targeted JLPT/JFT levels N5–N4 and are well-prepared for interviews or opportunities with Japanese employers and partner institutions by the end of their training program.
    • Complete at least one Japanese language teaching certification or professional development course per year and integrate at least 75% of newly learned methodologies and pedagogical approaches into lesson plans and learner feedback reports by the end of each quarter.
    • Design and implement interactive, communicative learning activities that develop learners' reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
    • Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning needs, proficiency levels, and cultural backgrounds.
    • Schedule, prepare, administer, and grade assessments on an ongoing basis, ensuring continuous evaluation of learner progress.
    • Provide constructive feedback within one week of each assessment, and escalate learners with significant performance challenges to the Training Coordinator for targeted intervention.
    • Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, test results, and learner progress.
    • Conduct individualized coaching and follow-up sessions after each unit to identify and address specific learning gaps.
    • Generate and submit monthly progress reports to the Training Coordinator.
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to promote Japanese language programs, share learner success stories, and encourage referrals to increase enrollment by at least 10% annually.
    • Facilitate and support partnerships with Japanese language examination bodies, cultural institutions and related organizations to expand program credibility and opportunities for learners.
    • Undertake other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring alignment with the institute's goals and timely execution of delegated duties.

    Required Qualifications

    • Japanese language proficiency, JLPT/JFT certification at N2 or N1 level.
    • At least two (2) to three (3) years of teaching experience in a recognized institution.
    • Excellent command of the Japanese language, both verbal and written.

Show JLPT Mastery and Teaching Impact in Your Application

This role hinges on your ability to prepare learners for JLPT/JFT exams and get measurable pass rates. Hiring managers will look for proof of your own certification level and how you've helped students succeed.

    1. Lead with your JLPT/JFT certification: Clearly state your N2 or N1 level on your CV and in your cover letter. If you have teaching certificates, list them prominently. This is the first screen.

    2. Quantify your teaching results: Instead of just saying you taught Japanese, give numbers: how many students you prepared, what pass rates you achieved, and how you improved learner outcomes. For example, "Prepared 30 students for JLPT N4, with 85% passing."

    3. Show curriculum development skills: Describe how you've designed or updated lesson plans, materials, and assessments. Mention any alignment with JLPT/JFT standards. This shows you can own the curriculum, not just deliver it.

    4. Prepare a demo lesson: You may be asked to teach a sample class. Prepare a short, interactive lesson that covers all four skills: listening, reading, writing, speaking. Use authentic materials and show how you engage learners.

    5. Highlight cultural competency: The role emphasizes cultural competencies. Share examples of how you've integrated Japanese culture into your teaching, such as business etiquette, customs, or media. This shows you prepare learners for real-world interactions.

    6. Emphasize assessment and feedback: The job stresses continuous assessment and timely feedback. Talk about your methods for tracking progress, giving constructive feedback, and intervening when learners struggle. Mention any tools you use.

    7. Show collaboration and partnership skills: The role involves working with marketing and external partners. Give examples of how you've promoted programs or built relationships with institutions. This shows you're not just a classroom teacher.

    8. Align with CMTI values: The posting mentions fostering an inclusive, supportive environment aligned with CMTI values. Research CMTI (if possible) and reflect their values in your application. Show you're a team player who supports the institute's goals.
