    Show Your Number-Crunching Confidence

Accounting roles are all about precision and trust. Hiring managers want to see that you can handle the books without breaking a sweat—and that you know your way around Excel and accounting software.

    1. Tailor your CV to the role: Highlight your accounting coursework, any internships, and your familiarity with financial statements. Use numbers to show your impact, like 'reconciled 100+ transactions monthly'.

    2. Brush up on Excel: Be ready to demonstrate your skills with pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and basic formulas. Mention any advanced Excel training or certifications you have.

    3. Understand the basics: Review key accounting principles like double-entry bookkeeping, accruals, and the accounting cycle. Expect questions on these in the interview.

    4. Show your attention to detail: Give examples of how you've caught errors or improved accuracy in past roles or projects. This is a top trait for accountants.

    5. Prepare for scenario questions: You might be asked how you'd handle a discrepancy or a tight deadline. Think through your process and be ready to explain it clearly.

    6. Know the software: If you've used QuickBooks, Sage, or other accounting tools, mention them. If not, show willingness to learn quickly.

    7. Highlight your integrity: Accounting requires trust. Share examples of how you've handled confidential information responsibly.

    8. Ask smart questions: In the interview, ask about the company's accounting processes, team structure, and growth opportunities. It shows you're serious about the role.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
