Show You Can Run a Tight Depot

Depot in-charge roles are about discipline, accuracy, and keeping operations moving. The hiring team will be looking for proof you can manage stock, people, and safety without dropping the ball.

    1. Quantify your inventory wins: On your CV, put numbers behind your stock control results. For example, 'reduced stock discrepancies by 15% in six months' or 'managed inventory worth KES 20M with 99% accuracy'. That kind of evidence speaks louder than a list of duties.

    2. Prepare a supervision story: You'll be managing operational staff, so have a concrete example ready. Describe a time you handled a staffing issue, improved attendance, or trained a new hire. Show you can lead without being in the office all day.

    3. Know your safety protocols: Occupational health and safety is a must. Be ready to talk about how you've enforced safety rules, conducted drills, or handled an incident. Mention any safety certifications you hold.

    4. Brush up on your systems: The posting asks for Microsoft Office and inventory management systems. Be ready to discuss how you've used Excel for tracking stock or a specific system like SAP or QuickBooks. If you've used any, name them.

    5. Show you understand dispatch: Timely and accurate dispatch is key. Walk through your process for planning dispatches, coordinating with drivers, and ensuring orders go out correctly. Mention any experience with fleet coordination.

    6. Talk about reducing losses: Depot losses eat into profits. Share a specific example of how you cut damages, shrinkage, or discrepancies. Even a small win shows you're proactive.

    7. Prepare for report questions: You'll be submitting operational reports. Be ready to explain what reports you've generated, how you ensured accuracy, and how you used them to make decisions. Bring a sample if you can.

    8. Show you're hands-on: Depots are busy places. Emphasize your willingness to be on the floor, check stock, and solve problems in real time. Hiring managers want someone who won't hide in the office.
