Show Your PLC and FMCG Edge

This role sits inside a fast-paced agro-processing plant, so hiring managers will be looking for proof you can keep production lines running and react fast when machines fail. Your CV and interview answers need to show hands-on electrical troubleshooting, not just theory.

1. Quantify your maintenance wins: When describing past work, include numbers like how many machines you maintained, downtime you reduced, or how often you completed preventive maintenance schedules. For example, 'Reduced downtime by 15% through proactive PLC diagnostics' is far stronger than 'did maintenance'.

2. Bring your PLC knowledge to the front: Since PLCs are explicitly required, mention specific PLC brands or models you've worked with (e.g., Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley) and describe a scenario where you used PLC logic to troubleshoot a fault. If you have certifications, list them.

3. Prepare FMCG-specific stories: The requirement for 1 year in FMCG means they want someone who understands high-volume, hygiene-sensitive environments. Think of a time you handled a breakdown during a production run and how you prioritised safety and speed.

4. Show safety compliance awareness: In plant roles, safety is non-negotiable. Mention your knowledge of lockout/tagout, PPE use, and any safety training you've completed. Give an example of how you reported or prevented a hazard.

5. Prove your diagnostic process: Be ready to walk through your troubleshooting method step-by-step. Interviewers often ask, 'How do you approach a machine that won't start?' Outline a logical sequence: check power, inspect wiring, test components, use multimeter, consult schematics.

6. Highlight your Microsoft Office skills: Since proficiency is required, mention how you use Excel for maintenance logs or Word for reports. You might say, 'I maintain a daily maintenance tracker in Excel to spot recurring issues'.

7. Emphasise teamwork and communication: Plant maintenance is rarely solo. Share an example of coordinating with production staff or other technicians to solve a problem. Mention how you communicate technical issues to non-technical colleagues.

8. Address shift flexibility head-on: The posting notes weekend and shift work. In your cover letter or interview, state your willingness to work flexible hours and give an example of a time you adapted to changing schedules.
