Show Your Teaching Chops Before You Walk In

This role is about turning complex data concepts into clear, practical lessons. Hiring teams want proof you can break down Python, SQL, and machine learning for learners who may be new to the field.

    1. Prepare a mini-lesson demo: Pick a core topic like data cleaning or a simple regression and prepare a 10-minute demo. Show how you explain it step-by-step, with a real dataset, and how you'd handle common learner questions.

    2. Highlight your portfolio projects: Bring 2-3 projects that show your data analysis and machine learning skills. Be ready to explain the problem, your approach, and the tools you used. Emphasize projects where you had to communicate findings to non-technical people.

    3. Practice explaining statistics simply: Expect to be asked how you'd teach concepts like p-values, distributions, or overfitting. Prepare analogies and simple examples that make these ideas accessible.

    4. Show your experience with real datasets: Mention specific datasets you've worked with, whether from Kaggle, your previous job, or personal projects. Discuss how you cleaned, explored, and modeled the data.

    5. Emphasize your mentoring or facilitation experience: Even if it's informal, talk about times you've helped others learn. This could be tutoring, running a study group, or guiding junior colleagues.

    6. Be ready to discuss assessment methods: Think about how you'd evaluate learner work. Mention rubrics, project-based assessments, and how you'd give feedback that helps learners improve both technically and professionally.

    7. Align with the college's mission: Research Mediacrest Training College and understand their focus on practical, career-ready skills. Tailor your examples to show you can help learners build portfolios that employers value.

    8. Ask thoughtful questions: Prepare questions about the learner profile, course structure, and how success is measured. This shows you're genuinely interested in the role and the learners' outcomes.
