Logbook Presentation That Gets You Shortlisted

For DHC8 Captain roles, your logbook is your CV. Hiring managers scan it for currency, PIC time, and type-specific hours before they read your cover letter. Make every page tell a clear, audit-ready story.

    1. Highlight PIC on type first: Your logbook should have the 500 hours PIC on DHC8 clearly marked. Use a highlighter or a separate summary sheet so the reviewer sees it instantly. Do not bury it in the middle of the book.

    2. Attach the last three pages exactly as requested: ALS Limited specifically asks for the last three pages. Ensure they are clean, legible, and include your most recent flights. If you have gaps, add a brief note explaining them (e.g., training, leave).

    3. Verify your ICAO ATPL copy is current: Attach a clear scan of your valid ICAO ATPL. Check the expiry date and ensure your medical certificate is also valid. An expired license will disqualify you immediately.

    4. Demonstrate outstation flexibility in your cover note: The posting requires willingness to operate outside Kenya. In your application, explicitly state that you are open to outstation bases. Mention any previous experience operating from remote or international bases.

    5. Organize your flight time summary by category: Create a one-page summary breaking down total time, PIC, PIC on type, and multi-engine hours. This makes it easy for the recruiter to verify minimums without flipping through pages.

    6. Include a copy of your Multi-Engine Instrument Rating: This is a separate requirement. Ensure the rating is current and the certificate is attached. If it is embedded in your license, point it out with a sticky note or arrow.

    7. Double-check currency on type: 'Current on type' means you have flown the DHC8 recently. If you have been off the aircraft for a while, consider a refresher or simulator session before applying. Note your last flight date on the summary.

    8. Proofread your application for completeness: Missing documents are the top reason for rejection. Before submitting, check that you have included: logbook pages, ATPL copy, instrument rating, and any additional certificates. Use a checklist.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
