Nursing Interviews: Show Clinical Judgment and Compassion

For this entry-level nursing role, hiring panels look for a solid grasp of basic nursing procedures, clear communication, and genuine empathy. They will also check your registration status and computer skills, so be ready to prove both.

    1. Polish your CV for clinical clarity: List your clinical rotations, especially in maternal and child health, and any hands-on experience with immunizations or deliveries. Use action verbs like 'assessed', 'planned', and 'evaluated' to show your role in patient care.

    2. Know your Nursing Council documents: Have your enrolment certificate and practising license ready, and ensure they are current. Double-check the expiry dates and make copies to bring to the interview.

    3. Refresh your computer skills: Since computer application skills are required, be ready to discuss your proficiency with basic software like Word and Excel. If you have used electronic health records, mention that.

    4. Prepare for clinical scenario questions: Expect questions like 'How would you handle a patient with a high fever?' or 'What steps do you take before a delivery?'. Practice answering with clear, step-by-step actions.

    5. Show you understand the county context: Kakamega County has diverse health needs, so show awareness of common local health challenges like malaria and maternal health. Mention how you can contribute to community health.

    6. Emphasize your communication skills: Nurses must explain care to patients and families, so highlight your ability to communicate in English and Kiswahili. Give examples of when you explained a procedure to a patient.

    7. Be ready to discuss home visits: This role includes home visits and follow-ups, so talk about any community health experience you have. Show you are comfortable working outside a hospital setting.

    8. Ask thoughtful questions: At the end of the interview, ask about training opportunities or the typical patient load. This shows you are serious about the role and your professional growth.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
