Show Your Community Roots and Political Judgment
This role lives and breathes community engagement in the Rift Valley. Hiring managers will probe how well you know the local civic space, how you handle sensitive political dynamics, and whether you can mobilize diverse groups without friction.
1. Map Your Local Networks: Before applying, list the community action networks, civil society groups, and county-level stakeholders you already work with. Be ready to name specific partnerships and how you've activated them for civic education or public participation drives.
2. Prove Your Field Coordination Chops: Use your CV to show concrete examples of planning and executing field activities—logistics, budgets, and stakeholder coordination. Quantify reach where possible, like 'mobilized 500+ participants across 10 forums.'
3. Speak the Languages That Matter: Fluency in Swahili, English, and local languages like Nandi or Masai is non-negotiable. If you have them, highlight them prominently; if not, be honest and show willingness to learn fast.
4. Demonstrate Political Savvy: Expect questions on how you've handled politically sensitive situations. Prepare a story that shows you can navigate tensions, maintain neutrality, and keep programming conflict-sensitive.
5. Show You're a Safeguarding Guardian: This role demands strict compliance with safeguarding and PSEAH policies. Mention any training or experience you have in these areas, and be clear on how you'd escalate concerns.
6. Get Comfortable with RBM and MEL: Results-Based Management and monitoring, evaluation, and learning are core. Brush up on logical frameworks, indicator tracking, and reporting formats. Give an example of how you used data to adjust a project.
7. Prepare for the Travel Reality: Frequent travel across Uasin Gishu, Narok, and other counties is expected. Show you're physically and mentally ready, and talk about how you manage security risks in the field.
8. Align with the Mission: InformAction is about democratic governance and human rights. Your application should reflect genuine commitment to these ideals—share why you care and how you've contributed to civic activism in the past.
