This role is all about managing cash, credit, and channels with precision. Hiring managers will probe how you've handled daily reconciliations, supervised tellers, and used ERP systems in a financial institution.
1. Quantify your reconciliation wins: On your CV, don't just say you did reconciliations. Show numbers: how many transactions daily, the value of cash floats you managed, or the percentage of discrepancies you reduced. For example, "Reconciled daily cash and mobile money floats worth KES 5M with zero unresolved variances."
2. Prepare a FOSA-specific story: Think of a time you caught an error in a member's account or reversed a bounced cheque. Walk through the steps you took, how you communicated with the member, and what you did to prevent it. That's the kind of concrete example they want.
3. Brush up on ICPAK ethics: Since CPA K and ICPAK membership are required, expect questions on professional ethics and integrity. Review the code of conduct and be ready to discuss how you've handled ethical dilemmas in past roles.
4. Know your ERP inside out: They use ERP software, so be ready to talk about which ones you've used (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Tally) and what you did with them. If you can, mention specific modules like general ledger, accounts payable, or cash management.
5. Show your Excel superpowers: Excel is a must. Prepare to demonstrate advanced skills like pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data validation. Have a small portfolio of Excel work you've done, like a reconciliation template you built.
6. Understand FOSA operations deeply: Research FOSA (Front Office Service Activity) and the Sacco industry in Kenya. Know the regulatory environment, common challenges, and how FOSA differs from back-office operations. This shows you're not just an accountant but a Sacco specialist.
7. Practice your communication for member-facing scenarios: You'll interact with members and partners, so expect scenario questions like "How would you handle an irate member whose cheque bounced?" Practice clear, empathetic, and professional responses.
8. Align your CV with the job description: Mirror the language of the posting. Use keywords like "FOSA," "reconciliation," "teller supervision," "mobile banking," and "ERP" throughout your CV and cover letter. This helps you pass ATS and shows you've read the job carefully.
