Show Your Food Safety Command in the Interview

Hiring managers for quality and hygiene roles want to see that you can think on your feet about contamination risks, audit trails, and corrective actions. Bring concrete examples of how you've handled a hygiene breach or improved a process.

    1. Know the audit cycle: Be ready to walk through how you plan, execute, and follow up on internal audits. Mention specific documentation you've used to track findings and corrective actions.

    2. Speak the language of HORECA: If you've worked in hotels, restaurants, or catering, highlight that. If not, show you understand their unique challenges like high turnover and fast-paced service.

    3. Quantify your impact: Use numbers to show results. For example, 'reduced non-compliance by 20% in six months' or 'trained 50 staff on food safety protocols.'

    4. Prepare for scenario questions: Expect questions like 'What would you do if you found expired products on the shelf?' Practice a clear, step-by-step response that shows your decision-making.

    5. Highlight your certification: Make sure your food safety certification is prominent on your CV and be ready to discuss what you learned and how you apply it daily.

    6. Show your documentation skills: Bring samples of checklists, audit reports, or temperature logs you've used. This proves you're organized and detail-oriented.

    7. Understand the retail context: This role is in a store, so be ready to talk about how you'd manage quality in a busy retail environment with fresh food sections.

    8. Ask smart questions: Ask about the current quality challenges the store faces or how the team measures success. It shows you're genuinely interested and strategic.
