    Job Description

    This role involves implementing laboratory policies and programs, supervising specimen examination and result verification, and planning operational research on diseases. The position also includes developing technical specifications for procurement, overseeing equipment maintenance, investigating disease outbreaks, and preparing strategic plans and reports.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Implementing laboratory policies, guidelines, strategies and programs.
    • Supervising the preparation of reagents, stains and examining specimens.
    • Verifying and approving results.
    • Planning, budgeting and carrying out operational research on vector-borne diseases, communicable and non-communicable diseases.
    • Developing technical specifications for the procurement of medical laboratory reagents, apparatus and equipment.
    • Overseeing the maintenance of equipment and reagents for vector and insecticides application monitoring and evaluation.
    • Investigating disease outbreaks in liaison with other health care providers.
    • Supervising the archiving of specimens of medical importance for reference.
    • Mapping and surveying vector-borne disease distribution.
    • Liaising with stakeholders in mapping and surveying vector-borne diseases, communicable and non-communicable diseases.
    • Developing Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Validating and calibrating equipment.
    • Developing annual operation plans and Laboratory strategic plans; and preparing periodical reports.

    Required Qualifications

    • Served in the grade of Principal Medical Laboratory Technologist II for a minimum period of three 3 years.
    • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or any other equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
    • Higher Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences in any of the following disciplines: Parasitology and Entomology, Clinical Chemistry, Medical Biochemistry, Hematology, Blood Transfusion Science, Virology, Bacteriology, Histopathology, Clinical Cytology, Immunology, Mycology and Epidemiology or any other equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
    • Registration Certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board KMLTTB.
    • Valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
    • Certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four 4 weeks from a recognized institution.
    • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
    • Demonstrated capability and efficiency in organizing work and discharging medical laboratory functions.
