Show You Can Build a Sales Engine, Not Just Hit Targets

This role is about strategy and systems, not just personal sales numbers. Hiring managers want to see that you can design processes, coach a team, and scale revenue across multiple channels.

    1. Quantify your sales leadership impact: On your CV, use numbers to show how you grew revenue, expanded market share, or improved team performance. For example, 'Increased regional sales by 30% in two years' is more compelling than 'responsible for sales growth.'

    2. Prepare a channel strategy pitch: Be ready to discuss how you would approach retail, distribution, and other channels for a food manufacturing company. Think about pricing, promotions, and partnership models.

    3. Highlight your team development skills: Sales leads are judged on their team's success. Share examples of how you've trained, motivated, or restructured a sales team to improve results.

    4. Know the FMCG landscape: Understand the Kenyan food market, key players, and distribution challenges. Mention specific trends or insights in your interview.

    5. Show your analytical side: Sales leadership requires data-driven decisions. Be ready to discuss how you use sales data, CRM tools, or market research to guide strategy.

    6. Prepare for behavioral questions: Expect questions about handling underperforming salespeople, resolving customer conflicts, or managing multiple priorities. Use the STAR method to structure your answers.

    7. Bring a 90-day plan: Outline what you would do in your first three months: assess current sales processes, meet key accounts, and identify quick wins. This shows initiative and strategic thinking.

    8. Ask smart questions: In the interview, ask about the current sales team structure, existing distribution channels, and growth targets. This demonstrates genuine interest and helps you assess fit.
