Show Big Four Rigor in Every Line of Your CV
This role is built around Big Four discipline and IFRS precision. Hiring managers will scan for audit exposure, complex reconciliations, and tax handling before they even call you.
1. Lead with your Big Four brand: Put your Big Four tenure at the top of your CV, with the firm name, years, and the industries you served. For each engagement, state the size of the entities audited and the specific IFRS standards you applied.
2. Quantify your month-end close: Instead of saying 'prepared journal entries', say 'executed month-end close for a $50M portfolio, reducing close time by 20%'. Numbers make your accounting speed and accuracy tangible.
3. Prove your tax muscle: Highlight VAT, WHT, and corporate tax filings you've handled, including any audits you survived. Mention the exact tax regimes you know and any penalties you helped avoid.
4. Show SAP fluency: If you've used SAP, list the modules (FI, CO, MM) and what you did in each. If you've used other ERPs, say so, but be ready to explain how you'd adapt to SAP.
5. Prepare a JV accounting story: Joint venture accounting is a niche skill. Have a crisp example of how you managed intercompany transactions, profit splits, or JV reconciliations, and what controls you put in place.
6. Rehearse audit query responses: Expect questions like 'Tell me about a time you resolved a material misstatement'. Practice answering with the STAR method, focusing on your technical judgment and the outcome.
7. Know the energy sector's quirks: Oil and gas accounting has unique revenue recognition and asset impairment rules. Read up on IFRS 15 and IFRS 6 so you can speak to them in the interview.
8. Polish your stakeholder communication: Senior accountants talk to auditors, tax authorities, and management. Show you can explain complex numbers to non-finance people without dumbing them down.
