Build a Sourcing Pipeline That Speaks Before You Do

In sourcing, your outreach message and ATS hygiene are your first impression. Hiring managers here want proof you can find passive talent and keep pipelines organized under a tight schedule.

    1. Master Boolean and LinkedIn search: Use Boolean strings to narrow down candidates by title, location, years of experience, and skills. For example, search for "Sourcing Specialist" AND "Nairobi" NOT "intern". Practice building complex queries to reduce noise and find hidden talent.

    2. Craft outreach that gets replies: Personalize each LinkedIn InMail or email. Mention a specific project or skill from their profile. Keep it short (3-4 sentences) and end with a clear call to action, like a 15-minute chat.

    3. Organize your ATS like a pro: Keep candidate records updated with notes, status, and source. Use tags or folders to segment pipelines by role or priority. This saves recruiters time and shows you can manage data.

    4. Build talent pools before you need them: Don't wait for a requisition. Proactively add passive candidates who fit common roles your company hires. Engage them periodically with industry insights or role updates.

    5. Use sourcing metrics to tell your story: Track time-to-source, response rates, and pipeline conversion. Present these in weekly updates to show your impact. Numbers like "30% increase in response rate" speak louder than adjectives.

    6. Partner with recruiters like a consultant: Ask hiring managers about team culture, pain points, and what makes a candidate stand out. Use this intel to refine your search and recommend candidates who fit beyond the resume.

    7. Stay current on sourcing tools and trends: Follow sourcing blogs, join LinkedIn groups, and test new platforms like SeekOut or HireEZ. Being early to adopt a tool can give you an edge in finding niche talent.

    8. Keep a positive candidate experience: Even if a candidate isn't a fit now, respond politely and keep them in your pipeline. A good impression today could lead to a referral or future hire.
