Master the Art of Itinerary Crafting

In the safari tour world, your ability to turn client dreams into seamless itineraries is your superpower. Hiring managers will look for precision, destination knowledge, and a knack for problem-solving under pressure.

    1. Showcase your destination knowledge: Even as a fresh graduate, you can demonstrate your familiarity with East Africa's top parks and lodges. Mention any personal travel or academic projects that involved researching these destinations.

    2. Highlight your organizational skills: Reservations involve juggling multiple bookings and documents. Give examples of how you've managed schedules, files, or events in the past, even in a volunteer or academic setting.

    3. Prove your customer-first mindset: Share a story where you went above and beyond to help a customer or colleague. This shows you understand the importance of service in tourism.

    4. Get comfortable with booking systems: While you may not have used specific systems, you can mention your proficiency with Microsoft Office and your eagerness to learn new software quickly. Highlight any online courses you've taken.

    5. Practice your communication skills: You'll be liaising with hotels, airlines, and clients. Prepare to discuss how you've handled difficult conversations or negotiated in the past.

    6. Understand the financial side: Quotations and invoices are part of the role. Show that you're comfortable with numbers and have basic accounting knowledge.

    7. Be ready for emergency scenarios: Tour operations can be unpredictable. Think about how you'd handle a last-minute cancellation or a client complaint, and be prepared to discuss your approach.

    8. Show your passion for travel: Let your enthusiasm for the industry shine through. Mention any travel experiences, blogs, or even social media content you've created about East Africa.
