Master the Yard: From Fueling to Incident Reports

This role is the heartbeat of a busy transport yard. Hiring managers will look for someone who can keep trucks moving safely and on schedule, while also catching risks before they become incidents. Your CV and interview answers need to show you've done this under pressure.

    1. Show your hands-on yard experience: Highlight specific examples of managing truck movements, supervising fueling, and enforcing safety rules. Mention any experience with yard management systems (YMS) or manual logs. Quantify the number of trucks you handled daily if possible.

    2. Prove your mechanical knowledge: Since a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is required, be ready to discuss how you assess truck fitness, spot mechanical defects, and coordinate repairs. Mention any experience with pre-trip inspections and compliance checks.

    3. Demonstrate incident investigation skills: Describe a time you investigated an incident, wrote a report, and recommended corrective actions. Emphasize your ability to stay calm and systematic in emergencies.

    4. Highlight your safety-first mindset: Talk about how you proactively identify hazards like speeding, distracted driving, or poor reversing techniques. Give examples of how you've coached drivers to improve safety.

    5. Show your coordination abilities: This role involves coordinating with drivers, KBL operations, and workshop teams. Provide examples of how you've managed multiple stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

    6. Emphasize your availability and flexibility: The job requires fueling trucks from 6 AM, including Sundays and public holidays. Make it clear you're ready for early starts and flexible schedules.

    7. Prepare for practical questions: Expect scenario-based questions like 'What would you do if a truck is leaking fuel?' or 'How do you handle a driver who refuses to follow safety rules?' Practice clear, decisive answers.

    8. Tailor your CV to the job description: Use keywords from the posting like 'yard marshal', 'fueling supervision', 'incident prevention', and 'compliance'. This will help you pass ATS screening and show you've read the requirements carefully.
