Master the Numbers Behind the Safari

This role sits at the heart of a luxury lodge's finances, so the hiring team will be looking for someone who can juggle ledgers, stock counts, and statutory audits without breaking a sweat. Show them you understand the unique rhythm of hospitality finance—where cash flow, supplier payments, and guest experience all intersect.

    1. Prove your Excel muscle: The posting mentions an Excel assessment, so brush up on pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data validation. Be ready to demonstrate how you've used Excel to streamline reporting or catch errors in past roles.

    2. Speak the language of inventory: With stock control and counts in the job description, highlight any experience managing inventory in a hospitality or retail setting. Give a concrete example of how you reduced shrinkage or improved stock accuracy.

    3. Show you can mentor: You'll be training account clerks, so share a story about developing a junior team member. Emphasize your patience and ability to break down complex financial concepts for different skill levels.

    4. Get comfortable with compliance: Statutory audits like NEMA and health & safety are part of the job. Mention any experience coordinating audits or liaising with government bodies—it shows you can handle the regulatory side.

    5. Highlight your systems savvy: The role involves Panstrat and front-of-house systems. If you've used ERP or property management systems, name them. If not, show you're a quick learner with a track record of picking up new software.

    6. Prepare for scenario questions: Expect questions like 'How would you handle a discrepancy in a supplier statement?' or 'Walk me through your month-end close process.' Practice clear, step-by-step answers that show your analytical thinking.

    7. Connect finance to the bigger picture: This job isn't just about numbers—it's about supporting sustainability and community projects. Show you understand how accurate financial reporting enables those initiatives to thrive.

    8. Polish your CV for the lodge context: Tailor your CV to highlight any experience in tourism, hospitality, or remote operations. Use keywords from the job description like 'cash flow', 'payroll', and 'internal audits' to pass the initial screen.
