Show You Can Run a Commercial Farm Like a Business

This role isn't just about growing crops—it's about managing budgets, people, and compliance while hitting export-quality targets. Hiring managers will be looking for evidence that you've done this at scale, not just in theory.

    1. Quantify your farm's output: On your CV, include specific figures like hectares managed, tonnes harvested, or yield per acre. Numbers make your experience concrete and show you understand productivity targets.

    2. Prove your budget muscle: Be ready to discuss how you've controlled costs, managed inputs, and improved efficiency. Prepare an example of a budget you managed and the savings you achieved.

    3. Talk compliance with confidence: Global G.A.P. and HACCP are non-negotiable in export horticulture. Mention your hands-on experience with audits, documentation, and corrective actions.

    4. Show your people leadership: Farm teams need clear direction and motivation. Share a story of how you built a productive team, handled discipline, or improved worker engagement.

    5. Know your crops and agronomy: Expect technical questions on irrigation scheduling, pest scouting, and nutrition programs. Refresh your knowledge on the specific crops you've grown.

    6. Prepare for scenario questions: They might ask how you'd handle a pest outbreak or a missed harvest deadline. Walk through your decision-making process step by step.

    7. Highlight continuous improvement: Mention any innovations you've introduced—new machinery, better practices, or process tweaks that boosted yields or cut waste.

    8. Align with export realities: Understand the pressure of international orders and traceability. Show you can coordinate with packhouses and logistics to deliver on time.
