    Job Description

One Acre Fund takes on debt to finance our working capital needs, resulting from purchasing agricultural inputs ahead of time and selling them on credit to farmers. You will join the Investor Relations team, which manages our debt needs, identifies and grows relationships with lenders, and advises on capital structure and liquidity management. The Investor Relations IR team is currently a team of 3 people, based in New York & Nairobi, and part of the larger Finance Division. You will report to the Investor Relations Director to independently develop a pipeline of debt investments.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Debt Raising: You will source and structure working capital financing deals from African banks and commercial financing actors in our operating countries. You will have an annual deal-making target in the 7-8 figure range USD or USD equivalent. In particular, you will lead One Acre Fund's innovative financing platform: local currency financing and structured working capital debt products e.g., BOE, receivables financing.
    • Lead Investor Relations' presence in SSA: You will lead the team's presence in the region, participating in conferences, panels, and relevant investor events, and leading prospect and current investor visits to our operations. You will stay informed about market trends and deals in our countries of operations.
    • Contribute to Investor Relations' team goals: You will weigh in on capital structure issues, liquidity monitoring, risk, and financing strategies, contribute to our external financial reporting, and assist on analysis, proposals, and reports as needed.
    • Career Growth and Development: We have a strong culture of constant learning and we invest in developing our people. You'll have weekly check-ins with your manager, access to mentorship and training programs, and regular feedback on your performance. We hold career reviews every six months, and set aside time to discuss your aspirations and career goals. You'll have the opportunity to shape a growing organization and build a rewarding long-term career.

    Required Qualifications

    • Clear track record of originating and structuring loans in the 7–8 figure range USD or USD-equivalent
    • Experience independently managing the full debt raising cycle, from prospecting to due diligence, term negotiation, and legal documentation, with support from legal counsel
    • Experience developing and maintaining strong relationships with both external clients and internal stakeholders, understanding the factors influencing decision-making.
    • Experience in corporate finance and financial statement analysis.
    • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling
    • Strong networks within the banking and investing community in Africa

    Master the Debt Raising Cycle

This role is about closing 7-8 figure debt deals with African banks and commercial financiers. Hiring managers will probe how you've sourced, structured, and closed loans end-to-end. Show them you can own the full cycle, not just pieces of it.

    1. Quantify your deal track record: On your CV, list every loan you originated and structured with the ticket size, currency, and type (e.g., BOE, receivables financing). Use numbers like 'USD 5M working capital facility' to prove you've operated at the required scale.

    2. Prepare a deal pipeline story: Be ready to walk through a recent deal from prospecting to legal close. Explain how you identified the lender, structured the terms, managed due diligence, and negotiated documentation. Highlight any challenges and how you resolved them.

    3. Show your network in Africa: This role demands strong networks in the African banking and investing community. List relevant conferences, panels, or investor events you've attended or spoken at. Mention any relationships with banks or financial institutions in SSA.

    4. Prove your financial modeling skills: Expect a case study or technical interview on financial modeling. Refresh your Excel skills, especially debt structuring models, cash flow projections, and sensitivity analysis. Bring a sample model you've built to discuss.

    5. Understand One Acre Fund's model: Research how the organization finances agricultural inputs and sells on credit to farmers. Understand the working capital cycle and why local currency financing matters. Show you can align your deal-making with their mission.

    6. Communicate your stakeholder management: This role involves balancing external clients and internal stakeholders. Prepare examples of how you've influenced decision-makers, managed expectations, and built long-term relationships. Highlight any cross-functional collaboration.

    7. Be ready to discuss capital structure: You'll advise on capital structure and liquidity. Brush up on topics like debt-to-equity ratios, refinancing, and risk management. Be prepared to share your views on optimal capital structure for a social enterprise.

    8. Show your commitment to the mission: One Acre Fund is a mission-driven organization. Convey genuine passion for serving smallholder farmers. Share any relevant volunteer work or personal connection to agriculture or development.
