Master the Art of Tailored Safari Itineraries

This role lives and dies by how well you translate client dreams into a flawless East African adventure. Hiring managers will probe your destination knowledge, your ability to upsell without being pushy, and your calm under payment follow-up pressure.

    1. Showcase your destination expertise: On your CV and in the interview, name specific parks, lodges, and routes in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Mention the best seasons for wildebeest migration or gorilla trekking to prove you know the product inside out.

    2. Prepare a sample itinerary: Bring a one-page sample itinerary for a 7-day Kenya-Tanzania safari. Highlight how you'd tailor it for a Norwegian couple versus a family with kids. This shows initiative and practical skill.

    3. Polish your Norwegian communication: Since you'll be writing emails and WhatsApp messages in Norwegian, practice clear, warm, and professional phrasing. Review common travel terms and phrases to sound fluent and reassuring.

    4. Emphasize your sales mindset: Tour consultants are salespeople first. Be ready to talk about how you've met or exceeded sales targets before, and how you handle objections like price or timing.

    5. Demonstrate organizational skills: Managing multiple clients and deadlines is key. Give examples of how you've juggled competing priorities, used CRM tools, or created systems to track bookings and payments.

    6. Understand payment follow-up: Inbound tourism often involves chasing payments. Share a story where you successfully followed up on a late payment without damaging the client relationship.

    7. Show flexibility and resilience: Travel is unpredictable. Talk about a time you handled a booking change, a complaint, or a last-minute request with grace. This reassures them you won't crack under pressure.

    8. Ask smart questions: In the interview, ask about their typical client profile, peak seasons, and how they handle commission or incentives. This shows you're thinking long-term and genuinely interested in the role.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
