Prove You Can Prospect and Close in Insurance Sales

Insurance sales internships hinge on your ability to hustle, learn products fast, and keep clients happy. Hiring managers will look for evidence that you can handle rejection, follow a sales process, and hit targets.

    1. Show sales hustle on your CV: Even if you lack formal sales experience, highlight any role where you persuaded, negotiated, or met targets—like campus fundraising, retail, or sports team leadership. Quantify results where possible, e.g., 'increased club membership by 20%'.

    2. Know the insurance basics: Before applying, research life insurance products, key terms like premiums, policies, and persistency. Be ready to explain why insurance matters and how you'd approach a cold call.

    3. Prepare for a sales pitch: You may be asked to pitch a product or handle a mock objection. Practice a clear, confident pitch that highlights benefits, and prepare responses to common objections like 'I already have insurance' or 'It's too expensive'.

    4. Emphasize your digital skills: Insurance sales increasingly use CRM tools, social media, and mobile apps. Mention any experience with Excel, Google Sheets, or social media marketing, and be ready to learn new systems quickly.

    5. Show you're a go-getter: The posting asks for self-driven, disciplined candidates. Share a story that demonstrates your initiative—like organizing an event, starting a small business, or taking on extra responsibilities without being asked.

    6. Understand the target market: Thika is a growing commercial hub. Think about the local demographics and how you'd approach small business owners, young families, or professionals. Showing local insight can set you apart.

    7. Dress and act professionally: Insurance is a trust-based industry. First impressions matter—dress smartly, arrive early, and show respect in all interactions. Your attitude during the interview is a preview of how you'll treat clients.

    8. Ask smart questions: At the end of the interview, ask about training, mentorship, and what top-performing interns do differently. This shows you're serious about the role and eager to grow.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
