Show You Can Build and Lead a Sales Unit
This role is about growing a sales team and hitting targets. Hiring managers will look for proof you can recruit, train, and motivate advisors while managing your own numbers.
1. Quantify your sales achievements: On your CV, list specific numbers: policies sold, premiums generated, team size, and retention rates. For example, 'Grew team from 5 to 15 advisors within 12 months' or 'Exceeded annual premium target by 20%'.
2. Highlight your recruitment experience: Since the role involves sourcing and training Financial Advisors, mention any past experience in hiring, onboarding, or mentoring. Describe how you identified talent and got them productive quickly.
3. Prepare for KPI-focused questions: Expect to be asked how you set, track, and evaluate KPIs for your team. Have a clear example of a KPI framework you used and how you handled underperformance.
4. Show your IRA registration and certifications: Ensure your CV clearly lists your IRA registration and any insurance certifications (COP, etc.). Bring copies to the interview.
5. Demonstrate stakeholder relationship skills: The role requires building relationships with corporate entities and check-off institutions. Prepare a story about a time you secured a partnership or opened a new market.
6. Be ready to discuss persistency: Understand what persistency ratios are and how you've improved them in the past. Have a concrete example of reducing lapses or improving client retention.
7. Show your training capability: Since you'll train Financial Advisors, talk about any training you've delivered, whether formal or on-the-job. Mention any sales training certifications you have.
8. Know the insurance market in Thika: Research the local market and competitors. Be ready to discuss how you would approach corporate clients and grow the unit's presence in the region.
