    Show Your Construction Finance Chops

This role sits at the intersection of construction operations and strict financial control. Hiring managers will be looking for proof you can keep project costs on a leash while producing reports that actually guide decisions.

    1. Quantify your project portfolio: On your CV, list the construction projects you've handled, their budgets, and your specific role in cost control. Numbers like 'managed budgets up to KES 500M' or 'reduced cost overruns by 15%' speak louder than generic phrases.

    2. Master the tools they named: SAP and Oracle are non-negotiable. If you've used them, highlight it. If not, take a quick online course to get familiar, and be honest about your level. Advanced Excel is a must—brush up on pivot tables, complex formulas, and financial modeling.

    3. Prepare for IFRS and tax questions: Expect technical questions on IFRS 15 (revenue from contracts) and Kenyan tax regulations. Review the latest standards and how they apply to construction contracts.

    4. Show your stakeholder game: You'll liaise with project managers, contractors, and suppliers. Prepare examples of how you've communicated financial constraints to non-finance people and kept everyone aligned.

    5. Bring a dashboard sample: If you've built a project cost dashboard, bring a sample or a screenshot. It shows you can turn raw data into insights—a key part of this role.

    6. Expect scenario questions: Be ready for 'what would you do if a project is over budget?' Walk through your process: analyze the variance, talk to the PM, identify the cause, and propose corrective actions.

    7. Highlight your audit experience: You'll support audits and implement internal controls. Mention any past audit support, internal control improvements, or compliance work.

    8. Show you can manage multiple projects: Give examples of how you've juggled several projects at once—how you prioritized, tracked deadlines, and kept reporting accurate under pressure.
