Winning Custody Clients Through Tender Precision

In custody services, relationship managers win or lose on tender responses and stakeholder trust. Hiring managers here will probe your ability to navigate complex RFPs, manage client committees, and keep KYC/AML airtight under audit pressure.

    1. Lead with custody-specific wins: On your CV, highlight deals where you sourced new custody business or retained a key client. Quantify the assets under custody or revenue growth you drove. Avoid generic relationship management claims — show you understand global custody's unique regulatory and operational demands.

    2. Prove your tender expertise: The role demands 3 years in end-to-end business tender processing. Prepare a one-page summary of a tender you led: the client's needs, your solution, pricing strategy, and outcome. Be ready to walk through the RFP response process in the interview.

    3. Show stakeholder management depth: You'll work with investment committees and fund secretaries. Give examples of how you've influenced senior stakeholders, resolved conflicts, or aligned multiple parties around a service agreement. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result).

    4. Demonstrate regulatory fluency: Custody services are heavily regulated. Brush up on KYC/AML requirements, CISI and TDPK frameworks. Mention any audit or compliance improvements you've implemented. Expect scenario questions on handling suspicious transactions or documentation gaps.

    5. Prepare for client retention stories: The job emphasizes retention and repeat business. Share a story where you turned around a dissatisfied client, identified an upsell opportunity, or improved SLA compliance. Show you track client health metrics proactively.

    6. Highlight your operations background: With 3 years in bank operations, you understand back-office realities. Use this to show you can bridge client expectations and operational capacity. Example: how you streamlined reporting or reduced query resolution time.

    7. Practice the emotional intelligence question: The requirements list 'excellent emotional intelligence skills'. Expect behavioral questions like 'Tell me about a time you managed a difficult client relationship.' Prepare a response that shows empathy, self-awareness, and conflict de-escalation.

    8. Tailor your presentation to custody committees: You may be asked to give a mock presentation. Choose a topic like 'emerging trends in global custody' or 'how to enhance client reporting'. Keep it concise, data-driven, and focused on value — committees want confidence, not fluff.
