    Job Description

The Technical Director will provide overall technical and operational leadership across the company's construction portfolio, overseeing multiple projects, guiding Project Managers, and ensuring projects are delivered within required timelines, budgets, and engineering standards. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will sit on the company's Executive Committee (EXCO) as part of senior management responsible for strategic decisions. The role is accountable for ensuring that projects are delivered safely, profitably, on schedule, and to the highest engineering standards, while maintaining strong client relationships and contractual compliance.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide executive oversight of major infrastructure and building projects

    • Ensure proper administration of projects under JBC construction contracts and other standard forms of contract
    • Direct project execution from pre-construction through commissioning and handover
    • Supervise and guide Project Managers and multidisciplinary technical teams
    • Provide oversight on procurement cycles and ensure compliance with Kenyan Public Procurement regulations and systems
    • Monitor and manage project cashflows, cost controls, and commercial performance
    • Take full accountability for project profitability, margins, and commercial performance
    • Review and approve project budgets, forecasts, variation claims, and recovery strategies
    • Drive contract negotiations and commercial dispute resolution
    • Serve as the executive interface with Government Ministries, County Governments, engineers, consultants, and development partners
    • Lead executive-level client engagement throughout project delivery
    • Lead enterprise project risk reviews
    • Develop mitigation strategies for technical, financial, contractual, and operational risks
    • Champion innovation, digital construction, BIM, value engineering, and modern construction methodologies
    • Lead value engineering initiatives to optimise cost efficiency without compromising project quality
    • Oversee subcontractor management, supplier engagement, and procurement planning
    • Lead technical governance across the entire project portfolio
    • Lead technical planning, scheduling, and execution strategies across projects
    • Participate in strategic decision-making as a member of the Executive Committee (EXCO)
    • Provide technical leadership across multiple construction projects, including high-rise buildings and government infrastructure works
    • Build and mentor high-performing engineering leadership teams
    • Develop succession plans for senior engineering staff

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering

    • Good working knowledge of Kenyan Government Procurement systems and procedures
    • Demonstrated expertise in project scheduling, value engineering, procurement processes, and project financial management

How to Apply: Interested and qualified candidates should apply online via the Dynamic People Consulting (DPC) careers portal at www.careers.dpckenya.com.

    Show Executive-Level Construction Leadership

This role sits on the Executive Committee, so the hiring panel will be looking for evidence that you can steer large, multi-project portfolios while protecting margins and client trust. Your CV and interview answers must demonstrate that you have owned P&L, led senior teams, and navigated government procurement without breaking stride.

    1. Lead with portfolio-scale achievements: Do not list duties; quantify your impact. For each major project, state the contract value, timeline, and how you improved profitability or safety. For example, 'Delivered a KES 2B high-rise 3 months ahead of schedule with a 12% margin improvement' is far stronger than 'oversaw construction.'

    2. Prove your JBC contract fluency: Be ready to walk the panel through a specific JBC clause you have administered, such as variation claims or dispute resolution. Bring a redacted example of a claim you recovered or a negotiation you led. This is a screen many candidates fail because they only know contracts in theory.

    3. Show government procurement mastery: Kenyan public projects live or die by PPRA compliance. Highlight your experience with tender processes, evaluation committees, and audit readiness. If you have managed a project funded by a ministry or county, name the institution and the value delivered.

    4. Demonstrate financial stewardship: The CEO will probe your ability to protect margins. Prepare a one-page summary of a project where you turned around a loss-making job: what caused the overrun, what you did, and the final numbers. Use terms like cashflow forecasting, cost control, and recovery strategies.

    5. Showcase your leadership of technical teams: This role supervises Project Managers and engineers. Give examples of how you have mentored staff, resolved technical disputes, and built succession plans. The panel wants to see that you can scale your impact through others, not just do the work yourself.

    6. Bring your EBK and IEK credentials to the fore: Ensure your registration numbers are visible on your CV and in your application. If you hold any additional certifications (e.g., PMP, MBA), list them clearly. This is a hard requirement, so do not leave it to the recruiter to guess.

    7. Prepare for a strategic interview: Expect questions about enterprise risk, innovation, and digital construction. Have a concrete example of how you introduced BIM or value engineering on a project, and the measurable benefit it delivered. Show that you think beyond the site office.

    8. Align your narrative with the company's mission: Research Dynamic People Consulting and the projects they support. Tailor your examples to show you understand their market, their clients, and the regulatory environment. A sharp, specific answer about a current infrastructure trend in Kenya will set you apart.
