Master the Art of Consent and Community Liaison

This role is as much about people as it is about production. Hiring managers will look for someone who can navigate community relationships with respect and professionalism, especially when handling sensitive information.

    1. Show your production experience: Highlight any prior work as a production assistant, fixer, or researcher. Use specific examples of shoots or documentaries you've supported, detailing your role in logistics and coordination.

    2. Prove your language skills: Fluency in English and Kiswahili is a must. If you speak Kikuyu, emphasize it—it's a valuable asset for building trust with local interviewees.

    3. Demonstrate organizational prowess: Bring examples of how you've managed schedules, call sheets, or consent forms. Show that you can keep a project on track under tight deadlines.

    4. Prepare for short-notice availability: Be ready to start immediately. Mention your flexibility in your application and interview.

    5. Understand consent and compliance: Familiarize yourself with best practices for obtaining and managing release forms. Be ready to discuss how you handle sensitive information discreetly.

    6. Highlight your problem-solving skills: Share a story where you troubleshooted an operational challenge during a shoot. Show that you can think on your feet.

    7. Build rapport with communities: Talk about your experience working with local communities or stakeholders. Emphasize your ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships.

    8. Show attention to detail: Provide examples of how you've maintained meticulous records or prepared detailed production notes. This role demands precision.
