Master the Broker Channel Before You Walk In

This role is about driving profitable growth through brokers, so your interview will probe how you've built and managed broker relationships, hit revenue targets, and handled credit risk. Show that you understand the Kenyan GI market and can translate strategy into daily execution.

    1. Quantify your sales wins: On your CV, use numbers to show growth you've delivered — e.g., premium growth percentages, new broker acquisitions, or loss ratio improvements. Hiring managers want to see tangible impact, not just responsibilities.

    2. Prepare a broker engagement plan: Be ready to outline a 90-day plan for engaging brokers, including visitation schedules, training sessions, and how you'd identify high-potential brokers. This shows you've thought beyond the job description.

    3. Know your credit policy inside out: Expect questions on how you'd manage premium collections and reduce debtor days. Have examples of how you've enforced credit policies without damaging broker relationships.

    4. Show strategic thinking: They'll test your ability to align broker channel plans with company goals. Prepare a mini-strategy for growing the broker channel over the next year, considering market trends and competitor activity.

    5. Demonstrate leadership with examples: Use the STAR method to describe how you've built and motivated teams, resolved conflicts, and held people accountable. Highlight any mentoring or training you've provided.

    6. Brush up on regulatory compliance: Be ready to discuss how you ensure brokers meet regulatory requirements before onboarding. Familiarity with IRA (Insurance Regulatory Authority) rules is a plus.

    7. Practice cross-selling scenarios: Since the role supports the IFS strategy, prepare examples of how you've collaborated with other business lines (life, investment, health, banking) to drive revenue. Show you can spot cross-selling opportunities.

    8. Ask sharp questions: At the end, ask about the current broker portfolio's performance, challenges in the channel, and what success looks like in the first six months. This shows genuine interest and strategic curiosity.
