Master the Art of the Follow-Up

In real estate, the money is in the follow-up. Hiring managers want to see that you can balance relationship-building with firm, persistent collection calls without burning bridges.

    1. Show Your Collection Toolkit: On your CV, list specific collection techniques you've used—like payment plans, reminder cadence, or escalation paths. Mention any CRM or accounting software you've used to track accounts.

    2. Prove Your People Skills: Real estate clients can be sensitive. Give an example of a time you turned an angry client into a satisfied one. Show you can listen, empathize, and find a win-win.

    3. Quantify Your Results: Instead of saying 'responsible for collections,' say 'reduced overdue accounts by 20% in six months.' Numbers speak louder than duties.

    4. Prepare for the 'Tough Call' Question: Expect to be asked how you handle a client who refuses to pay. Have a calm, professional script ready that shows persistence and problem-solving.

    5. Know the Real Estate Lingo: Familiarize yourself with terms like 'service charge,' 'rent arrears,' and 'lease agreements.' It shows you understand the industry context.

    6. Highlight Your Reporting Skills: The job mentions preparing performance reports. Be ready to explain how you track your daily follow-ups and what metrics you'd report to management.

    7. Show You're a Team Player: Collections often need input from Sales, Finance, and Legal. Give an example of a time you collaborated with other departments to resolve a client issue.

    8. Ask Smart Questions: In the interview, ask about the current collection process, the client portfolio, and what tools they use. It shows you're already thinking about how to add value.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
